A North Devon paddleboarder has set off on a four-month mission to paddle the length of the UK.

Northam’s Cal Major will be raising awareness of plastic pollution as she attempts the never-been-done-before journey from Land’s End to John O’Groats.

She set off on her mission yesterday (Thursday) and hopes she can use her expedition to encourage people to ditch single-use plastics.

On her Facebook page before she left, she posted: “Someone asked me recently what success for the message looks like.

“Well, if I can help even just 10 people switch from single-use plastic water bottles to a reusable water bottle, I’ll have done my job.”

On her journey Cal will carry all her supplies, including rations, and will be attempting not to use single-use plastics herself.
