The Easter holidays have proved a busy period for the volunteers at Ilfracombe RNLI. The holidays kicked off with a 6pm call for the all-weather lifeboat to Lundy Island to help the coastguard evacuate a 71-year-old man had broken his arm. The helicopter from St Athan was also on scene but unable to land because of low cloud. The casualty was taken on to the lifeboat and a more sedate pace allowed for the journey back to Ilfracombe. On Easter Saturday volunteers let their hair down at the well supported Easter Eggvent fun day at the boat house, with Evie Belgrove winning the drawing competition. Most recently on Thursday the crew was called to reports of a dinghy off Foreland Point that turned out to be abandoned rope and fishing gear. Coxswain Andrew Bengey said: It was a call with good intent, we found the object thought to be a capsized dingy washed ashore, it was rope and discarded fishing gear, from a distance in the surf this could have looked like a dingy.
