AFTER just one month of life the new Ilfracombe Centre is already proving a big hit, with demand far exceeding expectation.The £1 million "one stop shop" for advice and services in the High Street has become a real hive of activity with around 100 customers visiting every day.Centre manager Andrea Beacham said from the moment the doors opened, demand had been high: "There was no lead-in period where people gradually got to know what was available," she said."From day one our customer service advisors have been fully engaged with customers who have been calling in with a wide variety of inquiries for services they couldn't access previously. "It shows this is a much-needed resource for the town and we're really pleased that people are fully utilising the facilities."Popular facilities include Internet access points and freephone lines for local council websites and services, Job Centre Plus and Citizen's Advice Bureau.There is a police surgery every Friday morning where residents can raise any concerns they have or make inquiries, together with a Devon Trading Standards surgery on the first Tuesday of each month.Meeting and conference facilities are also proving popular, with bookings growing all the time.Inquiries about services or hiring facilities at The Ilfracombe Centre on (01271) 855300.
