A former Barnstaple pub has been demolished. The Borough Arms in Forches Avenue has been flattened to make way for nine new houses, two flats and 11 garages. Plans to bulldoze the pub proved controversial when planning was approved in February 2014. Angered Forches residents moved in to occupy the building for three weeks in protest of the decision. They had hoped to take on the management of the pub as a community asset. A spokesman for Chichester Developments said: We are delighted to have commenced development at the Borough Arms site. We estimate that the first completed units will be available in autumn of 2016. Chichester also has developments in Barnstaple, Northam, Westward Ho! and Appledore. The initial application for the demolition of the pub was made in 2013.
