Fire fighters donned dry suits to rescue the animal from the slurry pit.

FIRE fighters were called to the rescue yesterday afternoon (Tues) after reports a bull had become stuck in a slurry pit at a farm in Umberleigh.

A crew from South Molton and specialist rescue appliances from Barnstaple arrived at Hankridge Barton Farm at around 1pm.

Wearing dry suits, firefighters used throw lines, ladders, mud mats and a gas detection monitor to rescue the animal.

Just before 3pm, the fire service confirmed the bull had been successfully rescued.
