Bideford councillors heard work to redevelop East-the-Water Wharves would ‘most likely’ start next year.

Work to transform Brunswick Wharf in Bideford could be starting this year - but it is more likely to be early next year.

Councillor Mervyn Langmeade told Bideford Town Council on Thursday he had been in touch with developer Simon Maunder.

He said: "It has been an eyesore for over 23 years and has been passed for development.

"We have spoken to Mr Maunder, who is keen to carry on and said work will start maybe later this year, but more likely next year."

The plans for the derelict site include new housing, floating pontoons, cafes, restaurants, a new walkway and retail offerings.
