THE Bright Stars theatre group in Northam has presented the £400 proceeds of its summer show to the Edukid charity. The money will help finance a trip for 14 local teenagers to the "killing fields" of Cambodia. As well as viewing the memorials that provide a stark reminder of those who died there in the 1970s, the young people will be helping Edukid. Set up by Bideford Methodist Circuit youth workers Chris and Debs Turner, the charity is helping impoverished children there to improve their quality of life through education. Last year alone it provided "education packs" to 750 children, each containing everything needed for a year of schooling. The trip is planned for next summer and the youngsters are holding a variety of events to help them raise the £15,000 it will cost, despite them sticking to a "shoe-string" budget.
