BRAUNTON and District Museum, in conjunction with Braunton School and Community College, has embarked on a project to collect the wartime memories of local people.

In particular, the museum wants to hear recollections of the American soldiers based in Braunton and North Devon during their training for the D-Day Landings.

The project will be the culmination of 20 years' research by historian Richard Bass.

Jackie Edwards at the museum said: "We are looking for members of the community with knowledge, photographs and memories of the Americans in the area during 1943-44.
