Caen Street in Braunton is currently closed after a water main burst, leaving some villagers without water, but schools remain open as normal

Parts of Braunton were without water this morning (Friday, October 16) after a pipe burst in Caen Street.

South West Water has been working on it overnight and at around 7am this morning issued an update to say it hoped to restore supplies by around midday.

Village flood warden Ben Byrom posted on Facebook to say Caen Street was not expected to reopen today and asked drivers to detour around the area if possible.

Village schools including Caen Primary, which is on a different supply, Southmead and Braunton Academy are open as normal.

In a recent update, Mr Byrom said South West Water was working on a plan to fix the leak with a minimum of disruption to customers.

He added: “Everyone should be on or with a reduced pressure. It is probable that the major fix will be done at night when the least people are affected by an hour of no water.”

Braunton Parish Council has been providing emergency water at the Parish Hall for anyone who needs it. The council said: “Emergency water is now available at the Parish Hall. Please bring your own clean containers or buckets to collect and transport the water.

“Access to the Parish Hall kitchen is via the back door please follow the signage when you arrive.”

A statement issued by South West Water at 10.30am said: “South West Water: "Our teams are working hard to repair a burst in Braunton which meant some customers experienced a temporary loss of pressure or loss of supply.

“We’re pleased to say all customers should now be back in supply.

“We apologise to those affected by the disruption and will work to complete the repair as quickly as possible.”
