Chichester Homes were delighted to hand over another 9 new homes to local social landlord North Devon Homes earlier this year.
This is in addition to the 10 already provided and all 19 are only available for local people at subsidised rents or through shared ownership.
The development at Easterly Park, Lower Park Road, is nearing completion with a total of 55 homes being built by this local company after much opposition to the original planning.
However despite the misgivings of many people the majority of the houses have been sold to local people and the last 19 affordable homes are only available to locals.
This means that 82% of the properties are being occupied by local people.
The emphasis has been very much on the 'local' element in all this with Chichesters construction team being made up of local professionals and the materials used to build the properties coming predominantly from local suppliers.
In addition to providing these urgently needed rental and open market properties Chichester has also contributed:
- £110,000 Recreation Contribution to Braunton Cricket club, Braunton Football club, Braunton Countryside Centre and the Challoners Road play centre
- £98,000 education contribution
- £55,000 highways contribution for Mill Lane
- £20,000 biodiversity contribution plus spending in excess of £50,000 to protect the local bat population
The development has received many plaudits for the quality of construction, the architecture and layout of the scheme which includes a large area of Natural open space with play equipment and is open for all to use.
Chichester will be entering the development for an award from the LABC.
