POLICE are investigating the cause of an overnight fire that will leave surf lifesavers in Braunton without a boat for at least six months.Firefighters were called to Pixie Lane, Braunton, at around 2am this morning (Tuesday) after receiving a call stating that a boat on a trailer was on fire.Upon arrival fire fighters from the village found that the Australian-made sculls jig boat used by Saunton Surf Life Saving Club was well alight. The fire crew used two breathing apparatus sets and one hose reel to extinguish the fire, but the 20ft fibreglass boat and its trailer were left severely damaged by fire. The club will now be without a boat well into the summer season, as the crafts are specially made in Australia and have to be ordered.
