A North Devon father and son from Braunton will be performing on live television for BBC Children in Need. Reuben Jones, nine, and his dad Jim - aka Small Town Jones - will be performing at the regional South West Children in Need Show in Exeter on November 17. The Caen Primary School pupil has already carried out a mini tour with his dad of schools in the area, and the song was released on Friday, October 20. All proceeds from When I Grow Up will go to the charity, and so far the songs video has been spread far and wide, with more than 29,000 views on Facebook. Jim said: Reuben loves his music just about as much as his football and the simple idea of us writing a song together as a father-son summer holiday project turned out much better than we expected. As a result we decided to develop it further by spending a day with my friend, Mike, recording the track at his studio in Yarnscombe, Devon. Once recorded I asked Reuben what he felt we should do next with the song. He suggested that we somehow use it to raise money for Children in Need, which I thought was a great idea. So we set about making the song available to buy as an online download with all monies made going to aid the BBC Children in Need charity. Jim added: In all the time Ive played music, there is nothing more pride-filling than to play it with your children. Last year at the Christmas light switch on was the start, but Reuben has taken it to another level in wanting to do this for Children in Need. So far Reubens tour has taken him to primary school assemblies in Braunton, Georgeham, West Down and Woolacombe. And on Thursday night, he even performed to a sold-out crowd at The Factory in Barnstaple before Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn and singer Billy Bragg took to the stage. You can listen to the song on the Small Town Jones Facebook page and buy it directly at smalltownjones.bandcamp.com, on Amazon or on iTunes.
