Wessex Pantry was awarded class champion in the steak and kidney class at the British Pie Awards 2016.
A Bradworthy pie maker has been awarded class champion in the British Pie Awards.
Wessex Pantry won the best steak and kidney pie at the eight annual awards in Melton Mowbray.
This year 816 pies were entered from 132 professional bakers and butchers across the UK.
Judges included television chef Andy Bates, food critic Charles Campion and chef Rachel Green.
Wessex Pantry’s steak and kidney pie was given the class champion accolade based on a range of criteria, including appearance, texture and taste.
Matthew O’Callaghan, chairman of the British Pie Awards, added: “What a year for the awards – we’ve seen a truly varied and plentiful plethora of pies.
“Each year we hold the awards to encourage innovation in pies and I believe we have outdone ourselves this year.
“I’d like to give my sincere thanks to all involved, including our judges, sponsors, volunteers and of course, all our wonderful pie makers.”
