AN eight-year-old boy escaped with minor leg injuries following a road accident in Forches, Barnstaple, on Wednesday afternoon.

Police, fire and rescue and ambulance services were called to the scene in Greenbank Road at 4.40pm after reports that the boy had been in collision with a white Renault van. Initially it was thought the boy was trapped under the vehicle.

The road was closed from Forches Avenue roundabout for an hour.

The boy was taken to the North Devon District Hospital for treatment to his injuries.
