A COUNTYWIDE clampdown is on the way on illegal sales at car boots.Devon County Council Trading Standards and organisers of car boot sales across the county are working together on the initiative.Trading Standards is launching the Devon Car Boot Sale Code of Practice to support sale organisers and help them improve the safety and compliance with trading laws of their pitch holders.Organisers signing up to the code are pledging, with help from Trading Standards, to improve the standard of trading at their events.According to Trading Standards, most car boot sellers operate within the law, but they are sometimes used by unscrupulous traders selling illegal goods such as counterfeit clothing, DVDs, CDs, stolen goods, weapons and unsafe electrical items. Other items which cannot be legally sold at car boot sales include fireworks and alcohol, which could also be dangerous. For more information about the scheme, contact Devon Trading Standards Service on (01392) 381381.
