The 24-year-old is appealing for sponsors to help fulfil his dreams in America next March.
A YOUNG man from Bideford is looking for sponsors to help him achieve his dancing dreams to compete for England in Los Angeles.
Lee Dunn, 24, began to teach himself to body pop, a style of street dancing, just three years ago and has since climbed to high acclaim.
Last month he earned first place over more than 16 newcomers in the SHINE South West Street Dance Street Dance Competition and came 5th in the Champion of Champions contest.
It was after the competition he got the exciting news he had been selected to represent England at the Dance Excellence Festival in LA in March next year.
“I’m so nervous but the knowledge and experience I will get from going will be so amazing; I was just lost for words when I found out,” said Lee.
“I used to watch television shows like ‘America’s Best Dance Crew’ and think, I want to do something like that.
“I started practicing more and more; when I worked in Tesco before I moved to Bideford I used to dance to beats in my head all the time, the customers loved it.”
When he’s not training for his upcoming trip, Lee works at Wings South West teaching disadvantaged teenagers basic car mechanics.
In March this year his close friend and fellow dancer Greg Matthews, who taught street dancing to a group of 8-13 year-olds in Barnstaple called ‘The Noise’, was killed in a collision near Instow.
Lee said: “I have recently taken over Greg’s class to enable them to continue to learn to dance and to honour his memory.
“This trip will be a great opportunity to help me gain more confidence and knowledge to enable me to fulfil my goals of becoming a great dancer and to teach others all I know.”
But Lee’s dream will not be possible if he can’t find sponsors to support his once in a lifetime trip to America.
He said: “It’s an amazing opportunity, but it’s a lot of money and if I can find ten companies or people to sponsor me £150 each I can make it.
“All sponsors will be advertised on my tour jacket which I’ll wear to all of the competitions, as well as on the website of the dance company I’m part of, the Big Dance Company, so it’s great exposure for them.”
Anyone wishing to sponsor Lee can email firstname.lastname@example.org for more information.
