THE people of Barnstaple are being urged to lend their support to one of the town's stunning floral displays this summer.Barnstaple In Bloom is appealing for individuals, businesses or organisations to help their community look its best by "adopting" anything from a single stand of flowers to an eye-catching area such as the old Town Station or Mermaid's Cross. The In Bloom effort is run by a committee of volunteers and although grants are provided by Barnstaple Town and North Devon District councils, two thirds of the money for displays comes from sponsorship or fund raising."Very few people realise the displays in the streets, roundabouts and on Butchers Row and the Pannier Market are the responsibility of the Bloom and are paid for by the Bloom," said chairman John Wilsher."Barnstaple in Bloom arranges displays throughout the town and has won many regional, national and international awards - in the process, there is no doubt it has improved the environment for all who live, work or stay in the town and created a floral reputation second to none."All sponsors will be acknowledged by plaques on the displays they support.
