Bishop visits North Devon
THE Bishop of Exeter, The Right Reverend Michael Langrish, paid a four-day visit to North Devon last week. After a private meeting with church members on Wednesday, he visited RAF Chivenor on Thursday and joined a training flight with members of the search and rescue team.

After a private meeting with church members on Wednesday, he visited RAF Chivenor on Thursday and joined a training flight with members of the search and rescue helicopter team.
The visit was part of the celebrations to mark the 1,100th anniversary of the Diocese of Exeter.
Also on Thursday, the Bishop had lunch at the Rose and Crown, West Down, with members of the farming community before going on to Ilfracombe.

There, he was briefed on the economy of the fishing industry and future development of the harbour during a visit to the harbour.
The Bishop visited the town's RNLI lifeboat station, St Nicholas Chapel and learned more about the resort's street pastors scheme.

On Thursday evening, he presided at a confirmation service held at Holy Trinity Church, Ilfracombe.
On Friday morning, Bishop Michael dropped in to St Peter's Church in Barnstaple which played host during the week to some 800 primary school children.
Ten Barnstaple churches combined to give the children an insight into the Christian religion.
Following this, the Bishop, accompanied by Barnstaple Deanery Synod chairman Marguerite Shapland and Doreen Harrison, a churchwarden at St Peter's, toured the town's historic Pannier Market, where he chatted to shoppers and talked to stallholders.
The Bishop then visited Barnstaple Poverty Action Group's Gateway Project, before going to Braunton School for lunch and a question and answer session with students.
Later in the afternoon, the Bishop held a private meeting with members of North Devon + to be briefed on the state of the region's economy.
In the evening, he and the Archdeacon of Barnstaple, the Ven David Gunn-Johnson, met police officers in Barnstaple to discuss the town's night-time economy and drug and alcohol issues.
On Saturday, the Bishop visited Georgeham and attended a church service at St Peter's, Barnstaple, in the evening. On Sunday, he attended morning service at St Brannock's Church, Braunton.
