The next Bishop of London will be taking the Easter Sunday Service this weekend at St Paul’s Church in Landkey.

The service will be led by the Right Reverend Dame Sarah Mullally, currently Bishop of Crediton, and will also include the rededication of the 1877 church organ following a £25,000 restoration.

Dame Sarah was elected in December 2017 to be the new Bishop of London, the highest position ever to be held by a woman in the Church of England.

The service starts at 10.30am, with all welcome.

Fundraising for the organ appeal began in 2015 following the death of former church member, Dr John MacCaig, whose aim it had been to restore the organ.

Funds donated in his memory provided the foundation for a campaign to raise the necessary money for restoration which was built on from personal donations and grants.

It is thought the organ and its 738 pipes, some standing eight feet tall, had not been moved out of the church since its installation in 1877.

The restoration work, carried out by Michael Farley of Colaton Raleigh, mainly involved cleaning the pipes and actions.

The original hand-blowing equipment was reinstated to provide a back-up in the event of power cuts and the pedal action has been electrified with the pedal board being replaced.
