HISTORIC Lundy Island passenger ship and supply vessel, MS Oldenburg, is set to celebrate her 50th birthday in style.Tickets are now available for a special "black-tie" cruise along the River Torridge on the evening of Sunday, August 3.Sailing at 7pm, guests and passengers will be able to enjoy a glass of bubbly, canapes and complementary buffet while soaking up the atmosphere of the river cruise to the sounds of Guy Fenton's All Stars Jazz band. MS Oldenburg will return to Bideford Quay at approximately 9.45-10pm.The cruise will wrap up a day of festivities being organised on the quay to mark MS Oldenburg's official birthday 50th birthday on August 6.From 1-4pm, members of the public will be able to step on board for a tour of the ship, while back on dry land, the Lundy Island exhibition trailer will feature the history of the MS Oldenburg in pictorial form.From 5-6pm, "Shake a leg" shanty singers, a samba parade, and Bideford Town Band will be performing on the quayside.From 6pm, presentations will be made by Reinhardt Hempen, son of the ship's first ever captain. There will also be addresses by Bideford Mayor Caroline Church, the Rev Andrew Richardson; and Derek Green, Lundy Island general manager.Earlier this year, a set of six Lundy Island stamps featuring the historic vessel in various livery and different aspects of sailing was published to mark the ship's first half-century of sailing.Booking is strongly advised for the evening cruise.
