BIRDS in the Garden Week is the title of a half-term promotion at RHS Garden Rosemoor at Great Torrington. From this Saturday until February 22, families are being encouraged to go along and do a spot of bird watching.February is a perfect time for seeing birds in the garden because they are more easily spotted without the leaves on the trees.Rosemoor boasts a huge selection of resident and visiting birds, including buzzards, ravens, chaffinches, song thrushes, tawny owls, barn owls, little egrets and goldfinches. There are many bird feeders in the garden as well as 108 nesting boxes to inspect. Birdie-themed activities taking place throughout the week include Bird I-Spy, bird walks, nest displays and a children's photographic competition. There will also be a visit from Owls are Us, the owl and raptor rescue group, on Wednesday of next week. A number of owls will be on display.
