Businesses across North Devon went potty for purple this week in aid of an appeal to build a new Cancer and Wellbeing Centre.

Many staff at North Devon District Hospital wore purple, made purple cakes and held raffles to raise money for the appeal by Over and Above.

The Big Sheep, Tesco, Brewer Harding and Rowe, Driftwood Cafe, Barnstaple Coffee Shop and many more also wore purple and raised funds towards the appeal.

Fundraiser Julie Whitton said: “We had a fantastic weekend – everywhere you looked around the hospital someone was wearing purple, the staff got fully behind the event, helping to raise awareness on how important a new Cancer and Wellbeing Centre and relatives’ accommodation wing is for our North Devon patients.”

Head of fundraising and volunteering Ian Roome, added: “I would like to thank everyone who took part in this year’s Purple Weekend and raising funds to help us reach a step closer to our target.”

The charity launched its £1.5million appeal for the centre in August last year.
