THERE has been a big drop in crime recorded in the North Devon and Torridge areas for the period from April 1 to June 22.Overall figures have dropped by 10.6 per cent compared to the same period last year and there have been much bigger falls in some specific crimes.Serious acquisition crime - including burglary, vehicle crime and robbery - have fallen by 31.5 per cent and incidents of serious violence have fallen by 7.7 per cent.Domestic abuse offences are down by 20.5 per cent sexual offences by 11.1 per cent.Sgt Dave Elliott, crime reduction team leader for North Devon and Torridge, said: "I am very pleased that crime is continuing to fall in what is already acknowledged as a low crime area. But we cannot be complacent. Every crime has a victim. We are trying hard to drive down all areas of crime and encourage the public to contact us with any information that will help enable us to apprehend offenders.
