On Sunday (July 22) teams will launch their cardboard vessels from Bideford Quay in a bid to paddle to the finish line without sinking their ship.

There is still time to build a boat and join in with the event, which is sponsored by Aldi and Atlas Packaging.

New Bideford Rotary Club president, Morris Poole, said: “Atlas has kindly agreed to provide the cardboard free of charge again and boat building instructions are available on the Bideford Rotary website.

“It is easy and great fun, we are hoping we have lots more boats on the water this year.”

The water festival starts at 11.30am and runs until 5.30pm, with family entertainment and stalls along the river.

The regatta will take place between around 2-3.30pm, with prizegiving at 4pm.

Volunteers canoeists will be on hand to ensure safety in the water.
