THOUSANDS of people filled Bideford quayside for the town's annual Water Day fund-raiser on Sunday.

Crowds enjoyed a host of water-based attractions, including powerboat rides, rescue demonstrations by Appledore Lifeboat and the RAF Chivenor Sea King helicopter, as well as the welcome return of the Kathleen and May, who sailed back into Bideford after a two-month absence.

The event, organiser by Bideford Rotary Club, also featured a funfair, food and charity stalls, street dancing and rescue dog demonstrations by the Exmoor Search and Rescue team.

New this year was the first ever Bideford Triathlon, organised by the Bideford Bridge Rotary Club. Competitors started with a 400metre swim up river from the quay, followed by a 22km bike ride and a 5km run finishing at Victoria Park.
