Councillors vote to write to Devon County Council over cuts to bollards funding in Mill Street.

Bideford Town Council will be writing to the county council over its decision to withdraw funding for bollards in the town.

Devon County Council stopped putting the bollards up and down in Mill Street in March - leaving it in the hands of the town’s traders.

Councillor Peter Christie said at the town council meeting on Thursday the decision was ‘pitiful’.

He said: “I can’t understand the thinking behind it.

“I know that the shop-keepers have stepped in but it’s not quite the same.

“It’s the council’s one-way street and they have abandoned their responsibility.”

Councillors agreed to write to DCC to seek clarity.
