Bideford town clerk resigns

BIDEFORD Town Council will tonight (Wednesday) be considering a letter of resignation from its long-serving town clerk George McLauchlan.

No reasons have currently been revealed, but it is understood they will be given to councillors in his letter, which is likely to be considered in private.

Currently he could say nothing, Mr McLauchlan told the Gazette.

Mr McLauchlan has held the Bideford post for 17 years and is less than two years short of retirement age.

Prior to joining the council he served 30 years in the Army, from which he retired with the rank of captain.
