BIDEFORD will be the finishing point for Stage 6 of this year's Tour of Britain cycle race.The race will visit 14 venues over eight stages, starting in Scunthorpe on September 12, arriving in Bideford from Frome in Somerset via Exmoor on Thursday, September 17t.Ninety-six of the world's top cyclists will be competing in the Tour, facing up to every kind of challenge that the UK's roads have to offer.James Morrish, Leader of Torridge District Council said, "This is fantastic news not only for Bideford but Torridge as a whole. This is a real boost to our economy and will give great encouragement to our local businesses."Chief Executive of Torridge John van de Laarschot said, "This is a major coup for Bideford which will inevitably boost interest and spending in the town and Northern Devon as a whole. "Working with our partners our intentions are to build what will already be a big event into a huge occasion by adding other attractions and interest to encourage everyone into Bideford on September 17."On September 18, the cyclists move to Hatherleigh for the leg which finishes in yeovil.
