Eight students from Bideford College are raising £3,950 to spend four weeks helping communities in Ecuador. The year 10, 11 and 12 students hope to travel to South America to build and refurbish school and community buildings. Hettie Cook, Craig Huxtable, Ben Blake, Lewis Pillman, Karen Vasey-Szwer, Kieran Ward, Gracie Walker and Cameron Hillman also hope to carry out conservation work in the rain forest. Hettie said: I am really looking forward to all the challenges, helping people who need it and making a difference to the environment. Gill Huxtable, who is helping to organise the trip, described it as life-changing for the students. Fundraising events have included selling tickets for Bideford students to go to The Big Sheep, and a two-day sponsored cycle on exercise bikes at last weeks Mind, Body and Soul Festival. Craig has set up a Facebook page called Craigs click and collect where he has been collecting items for a car boot sale. Other planned fundraising events include quiz and bingo nights, craft fayres and bag packing at local stores.
