STUDENTS from Bideford College have set themselves a £60,000 fund raising mission, so they can go on a trip of a lifetime. The group of 30 students are planning to travel 6,000 miles to Peru, to take part in a scientific research project to protect the rare pink river dolphin, manatee and cayman of the Amazon river. They will travel for four days up the Amazon to one of the remotest parts of the jungle and work as general surveyors, supporting scientists from all around the world. Daniel Munro, of Bideford College said: "The trip will be hard work for everyone involved and the hard work has already begun as the cost of the expedition is £60,000! The students have come up with various ideas for fundraising and have teamed up with the Big Sheep family attraction, Asda, Brian Fords and Marks and Spencer stores for extra support."With the help of Asda in Bideford, the first fundraising event will be held on February 1 at the Big Sheep, with an evening of fun in the indoor playground from 5pm-8pm.Admittance is by pre-booked ticket only. Tickets are available from Bideford College, either call in or phone on (01237) 477611.
