MORE than 500 people marched through Bideford on Saturday to protest about mindless violence in the town.

The march followed an attack on 26-year-old Steven Cloak in Pitt Lane, which left him with serious head injuries.

Organisers publicised the event by opening a Page on the Facebook social website, which attracted several thousand members.

Marchers gathered in Victoria Park and walked around the town, including Pitt Lane.

Former school friends carried a banner saying: "Say this escalating violence ends now."

It is understood that Mr Cloak has regained consciousness in Derriford Hospital, Plymouth, and has been able to walk and talk to members of his family.
