A MAN has been left with serious head injuries after an assault in Bideford town centre in the early hours of Saturday morning.

The 26-year-old local victim was allegedly attacked and knocked unconscious in Pitt Lane at around 1.45am. He was taken to North Devon District Hospital in Barnstaple and subsequently transferred to Derriford Hospital in Plymouth, where he is described as being in a critical but stable condition

Two 16-year-old local men have been arrested in connection with the offence and were later released on police bail until later today (Monday).

Police are appealing for information from anyone who was in the area at the time to telephone 08452 777444 quoting police ref CD.10.321.
