East the Water had the biggest turn out with town councillors Ruth Craigie, Jude Gubb and Joe Day joined by Devon County Councillor Linda Hellyer, as well as a team from Tesco headed up by Debbie Grundy, their Community Champion.

They were also joined by volunteers tall and small and despite the heat they made good headway clearing up the area.

In Honestone Street a group of volunteers also got together to wedd out and re-plant the flower beds.

Mayor Doug Bushby said: “Usually we spruce up the town centre but with our maintenance team keeping on top of things we thought we would appeal to the Bideford residents to just go outside and get a team together to tidy up their own street.

“The Mayoress and I did Northdown Road and one of our officers and a maintenance team member cleared the corner of Belvoir and Abbotsham Road”.”

He added: “I would like to thank everyone who gave up their Saturday afternoon and other times to help improve our lovely town, and thanks must go to those who offered and supplied refreshments to our hard workers.”
