Bideford High Street is closed this afternoon (Saturday) after a man was spotted on a building roof.

Police closed the road this morning following a call out to a potential domestic abuse incident involving a knife.

Negotiators are currently at the scene attempting to talk the man down.

A police spokesman said: “Upon our arrival a man has now been located on a roof of one of the properties on the High Street.

“We are currently using trained negotiators to try to engage with the male and talk him down safely.

“We appreciate the patience and assistance of the public as we understand this is a Saturday and it will create some inconvenience.”

In a separate incident, police have also closed Chaloners Road in Braunton due to a 15-year-old believed to be at risk of self-harming.

UPDATE: The man is now safely down from the roof and receiving medical and mental health support.
