Town will celebrate with a week of festivities next month - culminating in the annual Heritage Day celebrations.
HORSEBACK jousting, medieval armed combat and falconry displays promise the ‘most spectacular show yet’ for this year’s Heritage Day.
Organisers Bideford 500 is putting on a whole week of heritage-themed events to gear up for the annual celebration on June 28.
Activities begin on Saturday, June 21 with the mayor’s procession, pirate shows at the market and gig boat racing on Bideford Quay.
On Heritage Day itself, there will be a procession through the town to Victoria Park where visitors will be greeted by entertainment, stalls and events.
A falconry display, man-to-man combat, jousting, archery, crafts, a medieval surgeon barber and guided heritage walks will all be part of the offerings.
The procession will leave the Town Hall at 10am with the official opening in Victoria Park at 10.15am.
Events will run throughout the whole day and through the town there will also be ‘food through the ages’, street games, a traditional shoe shiner and historical displays.
