THE police have been called in to investigate the appearance of a so-called "dirty tricks" leaflet criticising a North Devon candidate in the county council elections tomorrow (Thursday). The leaflet criticises the work of Councillor Humphrey Temperley, who is fighting a Bideford ward for the Liberal Democrats.North Devon Lib-Dem MP Nick Harvey said this sort of last-minute attack on someone for undertaking work on behalf of the community was unfair and unfounded."Local residents will know that Humphrey Temperley is an effective champion for the whole of the Bideford area," Mr Harvey said."He is a most hard-working councillor and constantly raises issues on behalf of local people. Above all, he gets things done."Of course, all personal attacks from political opponents should be taken with a very large pinch of salt. We do not want this sort of politics in Devon.
