A car has been completely destroyed following a ‘deliberate’ fire in Torrington.

A crew from Torrington was sent to Rolle Road at 6.22pm last night (Tuesday).

The officer in charge requested two further fire engines as they believed the fire had spread to a nearby derelict building.

Two fire engines from Bideford were dispatched to the scene to extinguish the blaze.

Crews used two breathing apparatus, one compressed air foam system jet and investigated the nearby building to ensure the fire had not spread.

At 7pm, the officer in charged confirmed the vehicle fire was out and crews had begun stripping back the building’s cladding to check if the fire had spread.

Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service spokesman said: “The officer in charge confirmed the vehicle was completely destroyed by fire and one derelict building was confirmed not involved in the fire. This fire was believed to be a deliberate ignition and police were informed.”
