A bid has been submitted by North Devon Council and Torridge District Council to try to secure additional funding for a local women’s refuge.

Local authorities have been invited to apply for a share of £10 million in government funding to help support refuges for victims of domestic violence.

As a result, NDC and TDC has put forward a bid for almost £200,000, with support from North Devon Against Domestic Abuse (NDADA) who run a refuge within the district.

The money would allow the refuge to provide a further six adult beds and 12 child spaces.

NDC’s Executive Member for Housing, Cllr Faye Webber, said: “If successful, this grant funding will provide additional bed spaces at the refuge, which will ultimately mean NDADA can support more women and their children who are fleeing from domestic violence.”
