Administrators announced today (Thursday) that the group would be wound down.

BHS’s Barnstaple store will be closing down ‘in the next few weeks’ after administrators announced the group would be wound down.

The announcement was made today (Thursday) by Philip Duffy and Benjamin Wiles, managing directors of administrators Duff & Phelps after a sale of the business could not be agreed.

The national retailer filed for administration in April.

The wind down order means that BHS’s store in Barnstaple and the other 162 stores nationwide, will go into closing down sales.

It is thought that 11,000 jobs could be lost as a result.

Mr Duffy said: “The British high street is changing and in these turbulent times for retailers, BHS has fallen as another victim of the seismic shifts we are seeing.

“The tireless work and goodwill of the existing management team and employees of BHS with the support of my team were not enough to change the fortunes of the company.”
