Barnstaple’s British Heart Foundation (BHF) shop is calling on local people to help with a Valentine’s Day record attempt.

Heart shaped messages have been filling BHF shop windows in the run up to Valentine’s Day for over a decade, but this year the public also have the chance to have their personal messages displayed in a record-breaking chain of paper hearts.

A £2 donation buys a heart with your personal message that will join thousands in London on February 14 as BHF bids to break the record of 8,525.

A second heart with your message will be displayed in the Barnstaple shop window. Shops in Holsworthy and Okehampton are also participating.

Businesses are also welcome to buy a heart, with donations starting at £10.

North Devon area manager Mel Kowalski thanked the people of Barnstaple for their ‘fantastic’ in supporting the shop. She added: “They sold more raffle tickets at this shop than any other in the whole of Devon. Every donation and item of clothing pays for heart nurses and equipment for hospitals and research.”
