RUNNERS are being called ON to put their best feet forward to help families whose lives have been turned upside down by childhood cancer. Children's cancer charity CLIC Sargent is the official partner for this year's Doone Run and is looking to recruit participants to join the CLIC Sargent team and raise money for a truly deserving cause. This year's race will mark the 25th anniversary of the event, which takes place on Sunday, September 20 amid the breathtaking scenery of the Lynmouth coastline.Runners taking part in the 10-mile race will be treated to stunning cliff-top views as the route passes through the wooded river valley and finishes nearly 1,000 feet above the sea. The mixture of roads, paths and trails comprises an unusual course which promises a varied physical challenge for all participants. Emma Perry, events fund-raising manager for CLIC Sargent, said: "I am delighted that CLIC Sargent has been chosen as the charity partner for this fabulous local event. Running for CLIC Sargent is an incredible motivator to get you across the finishing line, as you know all the money you are raising will help provide vital support for the thousands of children and young people diagnosed with cancer in the UK."By joining the CLIC Sargent running team participants will be helping to raise money for the families whose lives have been turned upside down by childhood cancer. Every day, 10 families are told the devastating news that their child has cancer. CLIC Sargent is the only charity offering them care and support, every step of the way. Locally, CLIC Sargent funds a nurse-based service at the North Devon District Hospital. Currently, the children's cancer charity is supporting 80 families in Devon alone. As well as frontline care professionals, CLIC Sargent also provides much-needed holidays away from the ward and financial grants to help cover the increased costs that families face when their child has cancer.Emma added: "Places are available on a first come first served basis so we'd urge anyone interested in taking part to contact us as soon as possible. If you don't fancy taking part yourself, come and join the CLIC Sargent team who will be there on the big day to cheer our dedicated runners along."To register for the Doone Run visit the official website at www.thedenes.com/doonerun and to join the CLIC Sargent Doone Team please contact Emma Perry on 07795 296374.
