Bells ring out for homeless pets

A SMALL mountain of donated food is making sure that homeless cats and dogs in North Devon do not go short over the festive period.

Animal lovers Jim and Joanne Bell of Yelland asked their friends and put up a sign in their front garden inviting people to drop off donations of food to help less fortunate animals.

“We were amazed by the response,” said Joanne. “Friends, neighbours and passers-by have showered us with donations. We have been overwhelmed by people’s generosity. It has shown the true spirit of Christmas and just how much people love animals.”

Husband Jim said: “It is amazing how much people think about dogs and cats and about the strays. There have been times when I have come home and found our porch and our garage filled with donations.”

The food has gone to the Dogs Trust at West Down and the Cat’s Protection League.
