SOUTH Molton Community Hospital has temporarily closed eight of its twenty-eight beds due to "a shortage of skilled staff and funding problems" says North Devon MP Nick Harvey."This situation sounds far from ideal," said Mr Harvey."It greatly reduces the options for GPs and puts unwelcome pressure on Barnstaple hospital and the care homes."Local GPs state there has been no discussion with them or an assessment of the impact on their hospital referrals with the North Devon Healthcare Trust."Ultimately this means South Molton Community Hospital has lost the flexibility to keep patients flowing through its system.He added that he would be taking the matter up with trust chief executive Jac Kelly as a matter of urgency.
