Beaches win Blue Flag awards

THREE North Devon beaches have retained the coveted Blue Flag status for 2009. Woolacombe Sands, Tunnels Beaches at Ilfracombe and Westward Ho! Are all among the cleanest in the country. The beach at Westward Ho! retained its Blue Flag distinction award

THREE North Devon beaches have retained the coveted Blue Flag status for 2009.Woolacombe Sands, Tunnels Beaches at Ilfracombe and Westward Ho! Are all among the cleanest in the country.The beach at Westward Ho! retained its Blue Flag distinction award for the sixth year because of its consistently clean water, litter-free shores, good facilities and safety.Ray Webster, Head of Environmental Health, Planning and Public Protection, said: "We are delighted Westward Ho! beach has received the Blue Flag Award which recognises all the hard work done by Torridge District Council to ensure the beach is a great place to visit. "This mark of excellence shows Westward Ho! beach is clean, safe and easily accessible with good facilities and is certainly a venue we are proud of.
