A POPULAR beach, blighted by litter, is to get a deep clean. On Sunday (April 27), volunteers, supported by North Devon Council, will comb stretches of the beach near Instow to collect discarded rubbish.Plastic items such as bottles, often left on the beach by visitors, make up a large proportion of rubbish found on the shoreline and can remain in the marine environment for centuries, with fatal consequences for wildlife.NDC is providing plastic bag and will arrange a special pick-up to collect and dispose of the waste. The council's lead member for waste and recycling, Rodney Cann, said: "This event is following on from the successful beach clean at Fremington. "There has been a lot of interest from people, who have already come forward offering to help."Volunteers meet at the cricket club 10am then head down to the water outlet by the power station.
