The co-leader of the national Green Party will be in Barnstaple tonight (Thursday) to give a lecture before addressing the party’s national conference tomorrow.

Jonathan Bartley will be speaking at the Castle Centre in Castle Street from 6.30pm, at a free event with all welcome.

He will be highlighting green issues affecting North Devon, as part of the North Devon Green Party’s annual Lecture Series.

Mr Bartley is currently co-leader of the national party, a title he shares with Sian Berry.

He said: “It‘s great to be visiting Barnstaple and North Devon for the first time – and judging by the efforts being made locally by a strong group of local Green activists, it won’t be the last; I see a brave future for Green politics here in North Devon.

“The local party here have shown the difference it makes when there are fierce, independent Green voices ready to stand up for a local community, particularly over issues like pollution, predatory developments, congestion and flooding.”

The Gazette caught up with Mr Bartley earlier today to see what he thought of the region’s green energy – or lack of – and its transport system – read more tomorrow.
