A Barnstaple woman will be remembering her late husband on their ruby wedding anniversary by running Race for Life.
Christine Calvert will be taking on the 10km challenge for Cancer Research UK in memory of Graham, who died after a long battle with malignant melanoma in September.
Christine, 65, who will be running on July 5 in Barnstaple with her daughter Gemma Robinson, 36, said: “Graham and I moved to Barnstaple in 2009 after he was diagnosed with cancer.
“We both loved walking and although we didn’t know the area or anyone here, it clearly is a special place and we both wanted to retire to Devon and enjoy the coastal walks here.
“We found out in June 2014 that Graham had four-to-six months to live; he so wanted to be at our daughter’s wedding and give her away.
“He managed to do that and survived for two more weeks before he died.”
Spaces are still open for the Barnstaple 5km and 10km event for women to walk, jog or run the course.
Ruth Chamings, Cancer Research UK’s events manager, said: “Race for Life is to celebrate those who are with us, and also remember those who are not.
“The atmosphere is electric, our participants are so inspiring and we’re calling on the women of Devon to help make 2015 our best year yet.”
