Barnstaple Winter Festival gets under way
Magic of Christmas comes to Barnstaple town centre
BARNSTAPLE shoppers are in for a treat this Christmas with a feast of festive of entertainment planned between now and December 25.
The town’s third annual Winter Festival, organised by Barnstaple Town Centre Management, was officially launched with the switch on of the Christmas lights by folk rock star Newton Faulkner on Sunday.
It features a packed programme of events that continues on Thursday with late night shopping, live acoustic music in the High Street, and entertainment by stilt walkers and Borderline Morris Dancers.
On Sunday, the annual Classic Car Show makes a return to the Pannier Market, while Barnstaple Youth Marching Band will be providing a festive atmosphere in the High Street.

Next Tuesday, classical duo Foley and Hepburn will be entertaining from late morning onwards, while on Thursday, December 2 late night shoppers can take part in a juggling workshop. Look out for the Snow Family and Barnstaple Operatic Society too.
On Saturday, December 4, Barnstaple Concert Band and the Salvation Army Band will be in the town centre, while on Sunday, there’s a festive market in the Pannier Market with street entertainment from Stiltskin, South Molton Town Band and the Barnstaple Youth Marching Band.

Don’t forget to cheer on the army of Father Christmases taking part in the annual North Devon Hospice Santa Fun Run. Late night shopping continues on Thursday, December 9 and shoppers will be able to step back in time at a Victorian Fayre, complete with Victorian strongmen, and a Barnstaple Town Council carol service in the Pannier Market.
Why not visit Tuly Street and join traders in a glass of mulled wine and a mince pie in aid of Amigos or visit an artist-led workshop upstairs in The Boston Tea Party?

Thursday, December 9: Late night shopping featuring Barnstaple Town Council’s popular Victorian Fayre, complete with Victorian strongmen, and a carol service in Pannier Market. Live music by Barnstaple Amateur Operatic Society and traditional dancing by the Borderline Morris Dancers. In Tuly Street traders have organised Christmas fun with mulled wine and festive munchies, all proceeds to Amigos, plus there will be an artist-led workshop upstairs in The Boston Tea Party.
Friday, December 10: Barnstaple Amateur Operatic Society and the start of this year’s pantomime, Aladdin, at the Queen’s Theatre.
Saturday, December 11: Music from the Barnstaple Concert Band and the Salvation Army Band.
Sunday, December 12: Festive Pannier Market, with street entertainment from stilt walkers, Stiltskin, South Molton Town Band and Barnstaple Youth Marching Band.
Thursday, December 16: Late night shopping featuring live reindeer Santa parade around the town finishing in the Pannier Market. Music and entertainment in the High Street with the North Devon Gang Show.
Friday, December 17: Festive music with Go North Devon Brass.
Saturday, December 18: Festive music with the Salvation Army Band and the Children’s Hospice South West Carol Singers.
Sunday, December 19: Festive Pannier Market, with street entertainment from stilt walkers, Stiltskin, South Molton Town Band and Barnstaple Youth Marching Band.
