BARNSTAPLE shoppers are in for a treat this Christmas with a feast of festive of entertainment planned between now and December 25. The towns third annual Winter Festival, organised by Barnstaple Town Centre Management, was officially launched with the switch on of the Christmas lights by folk rock star Newton Faulkner on Sunday. It features a packed programme of events that continues on Thursday with late night shopping, live acoustic music in the High Street, and entertainment by stilt walkers and Borderline Morris Dancers. On Sunday, the annual Classic Car Show makes a return to the Pannier Market, while Barnstaple Youth Marching Band will be providing a festive atmosphere in the High Street. Next Tuesday, classical duo Foley and Hepburn will be entertaining from late morning onwards, while on Thursday, December 2 late night shoppers can take part in a juggling workshop. Look out for the Snow Family and Barnstaple Operatic Society too. On Saturday, December 4, Barnstaple Concert Band and the Salvation Army Band will be in the town centre, while on Sunday, theres a festive market in the Pannier Market with street entertainment from Stiltskin, South Molton Town Band and the Barnstaple Youth Marching Band. Dont forget to cheer on the army of Father Christmases taking part in the annual North Devon Hospice Santa Fun Run. Late night shopping continues on Thursday, December 9 and shoppers will be able to step back in time at a Victorian Fayre, complete with Victorian strongmen, and a Barnstaple Town Council carol service in the Pannier Market. Why not visit Tuly Street and join traders in a glass of mulled wine and a mince pie in aid of Amigos or visit an artist-led workshop upstairs in The Boston Tea Party?
