The four youngsters achieved ‘terrific’ grades in their exams, all under the guidance of Barnstaple music teacher Keith Chivers.

Four violin students have achieved top marks for their music violin grades.

Ben Norris, 17, Emily Brooks, 16, Darcey Atkinson, 16, and Izzy Holm, 11, all got a distinction for their Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music violin grades.

A-Level student Ben, who lives in Barnstaple but studies in Exeter, achieved 138 at grade eight.

He has been playing the violin since he was five-years-old and next year will be attending the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama.

Pilton College pupil Darcey, achieved 132 in her grade seven exam.

Darcey, who leads the school orchestra, said: “I’ve been playing for about nine years.”

Emily, who attends Park School, achieved 135 in her grade seven exam.

And Izzy achieved 132 for her grade one exam.

Keith Chivers, who has been teaching music students in North Devon for 31 years, said he was very proud of the quartet.

“These are terrific achievements and I am very proud of them all,” he said.
